The Pirates of Tokyo Bay will make you laugh twice. Promise!
The group has been performing across Tokyo since 2010. The first year of shows the improv comedy group performed at the Pink Cow in Shibuya and at the Tokyo Impro Festival put on by our friends at ImproJapan. From that first year joining the bustling Tokyo comedy scene, the Pirates worked hard to put on bilingual (Japanese and English) comedy shows, something that was new to Tokyo.
The Pirates partnered with stand-up comedians (from Stand-up Tokyo) to open for our shows from 2011 - 2013. The collaboration among the various groups across the entire Tokyo comedy spectrum has been strengthened each time the Pirates of Tokyo Bay has partnered with local groups. From supporting ImproJapan to working with students taught by ImproWorks’ Yuri Kinugawa, the Pirates are able to work with all groups in the Tokyo comedy scene because the Pirates of Tokyo Bay are a bilingual group performing in two languages (English/Japanese) in one show. We’ve even been lucky enough to work with Chika (aka “Bilingirl”) of YouTube fame on a variety of projects where we put our improv skills to the test to help her fans with interactive experiences.
There is a lot that Tokyo improv groups can offer. Whether you are interested in checking out one of our English and Japanese improv comedy shows held each month in Ebisu, or another group’s shows, there is always something going on across the Tokyo comedy scene. Support local theater here in Japan so the community can continue to grow.
